♪ >> live from center city in philadelphia this is fox 29 news at 11. we begin tonight with breaking news. one man in the hospital after police say an off duty officer pulled the trigger in a northeast philadelphia home. investigators say it all started with fight in that house. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm iain page. lucy is off tonight. we are learning the victim and that officer are related. fox 29's shawnette wilson live at the scene with breaking details. shawnette. >> reporter: well, iain, police have not given the exact relationship between the officer and the victim but we do know that the victim is in the hospital right now in critical but stable condition. detectives continue processing the scene of a shooting on taunton road in northeast phil philly. this house is where police say

an off duty police officer fired at least two shots at a family member who is right now at aria torresdale hospital. it all started with a verbal argument that turned physical around 6:30 this evening. >> during this alter case the off duty police officers armed with an off duty weapon. during this altercation his weapon was discharged at least twice striking one of the individuals inside of the home in the torso. >> i seen cop cars all over the place, ambulance all over the case. what the she can going on. >> reporter: the officer was taken internal affairs to be interviewed. two other people were in the house but were not hurt. back here live, police again remain on the scene at this hour going over clues. they have not said what the argument was about that led to the shooting. iain, back to you. >> shawnette, thank. we'll continue to follow any developmendevelopments both air. you can head to our website fox29.com, and tune into the fox 29 morning news beginning at 4

4am. a major announcement from the philadelphia eagles today. rookie carson wentz will be the team's starting quarterback. it comes after the news broke over the weekend sam bradford has been trade the to the vikings. our chris o'connell has been talking with eagles fans tonight and joins you live from lincoln financial field. chris? >> reporter: well, iain, the carson wentz era will begin in exactly six days. for the first time a rookie quarterback will take to the eagles field in eagles green and if you are lucky enough to have a ticket on sunday here at the linc, you will be seeing histo history. >> i'm just like totally baffled how they could go from this guy in the even dressing for the season to starting. >> reporter: caller at wip's sports radio buzzing over the news news that carson wentz will be the opening day starter. >> to me it was very dull. for the first time i can eagles heading into season and wentz to me cages everything. it's a blank slate. >> reporter: wentz drafted second overall bite eagles

were taking advantage of those waves. meteorologist dave warren here with your first forecast at 11:00. >> that storm continues to get smaller and smaller as the latest numbers coming from the national hurricane center show it continues to track to the west northwest here at just about 9 miles an hour. intensity wind speed down to 65 miles an hour expected as it moves over cooler weather water that's the latest advisory coming in at 11:00 o'clock. the track for the national hurricane center this updates as well. you can see that general area where the storm will go between now and wednesday morning. so it could get a little closer before it turns to the north and eventually moves out to the north atlantic here by thursday. so huge area of gusty winds, still that rough surf. the beach erosion. these bands could spin through the area maybe few showers coming down across ocean county, atlantic county right along the coast tomorrow. clouds will work their way inland but getting close enough where we may see just a few

showers. future weather computer shows that throughout the day tomorrow these clouds will work their way from east to west. maybe as far west as physical. one or two showers moving right along the coast certainly light showers possible it will be moving through not very heavy rain and not a wash out tomorrow. the storm eventually will spin and work its way out of the area by wednesday and thursday. it will clear up then our weather changes we're talking about some heat coming in. get nice views of mars and saturn each night the temperatures into the 70s dropping down to 78 in philadelphia. 60s by the time you wake up tomorrow morning. but the seven day forecast shows what to expect once hermine moves out. we're watching the koftgar and tomorrow. thursday, friday, and saturday three days in a row here above 90 degrees. there could be showers and thunderstorms friday and saturday. the humidity will be high as well. so into the 90s and the heat index close to 100 degrees. doesn't last though sunday it gets little less humid and monday it is sunny and nice with a temperature there of

authority from the back to school forecast any problems out there on the roads bob kelly and sewer serio have you covered starting at 4am. authorities in atlantic city have released the identity of the police officer shot over the weekend. officer josh vadell a nine year veteran of the force. investigators say he was with his partner when they interrupted a an armed robbery early saturday morning. the 29-year-old was shot. officer did shoot and kill one suspect and arrested two other as short time later. officer have a deal is in atlantic care regional medical center inn in critical but stable condition. now to our developing story tonight out of stat poes logan second. authorities are investigate a brutal death. police say a man ran a woman over with his car but it didn't stop there. the driver is accused of of running the victim over several times in an empty lot along the 700 block of west lowden street last night. instead of getting out of the car to help the woman, he allegedly hit witnesses tell us the driver beat the victim with a shovel witnesses say it's an

image they just cannot get out their heads. >> i thought it was a plane old car accident. it wasn't until the driver backed his car up and that's when i saw the lady laying there in the lot. >> i couldn't comprehend. i couldn't believe what i was seeing. i just couldn't comprehend it. >> the woman in her 30s died at the hospital that night. police arrested the driver but authorities haven't said what the motive was and no charges have been filed as of yet. police in egg harbor township say they have caught a couple accused of burglarizing a home that was about to be put up for sale. 30-year-old heather oliver and 31-year-old christopher miller both facing charges tonight. police say the owner of the home spotted the two walking around the house along coventry lane. police later spotted the two at a nearby cvs. in you decide 2016, donald trump and hillary clinton didn't take any time off the campaign trail for labor day. the two major party nominees and their vp candidates headed to ohio.

♪ police in egg harbor township arrested this man they say crashed his car with a load of drugs inside. authorities say 23-year-old michael white crashed into utility pole last thursday night. that's when officers found nearly two dozen bags of crack more than 100 grams of marijuana and other drugs. he's now facing drug and motor vehicle charges.

bill cosby could get a trial date tomorrow when he returns to montgomery county court for an evidence hearing. cosby's lawyers are expected to fight to keep out that key evidence that includes nearly a thousand pages of damaging testimony that he gave in the accuser's lawsuit. the 79-year-old is charged with drugging and molesting andrea constand in 2004. cosby's attorneys want to prevent jurors from hearing a caped phone call between the two. da kevin steele to will fight to use that evidence at trial. we'll be there all day tomorrow. our coverage begins on good day in the morning. volunteers spending their labor day feeding the hungry in west philadelphia. chosen thee hundred ministries opening their doors this holiday to those in need. the non high profit consider today on not a day off. that's why volunteers were on hand to feed the dozens that showed up for meal today. >> we want to be here as a statement but to make sure we provide great meal for folk but also realize and let people know

in the community that we have to do something about poverty in our city. >> chosen 300 distributes more than 150,000 meals a year to the homeless in our area. in your money the delaware department of justice is telling residents who attended a certain chain of colleges that they may qualify tore student loan forgiveness. the consumer protection unit of the state's doj is looking for delaware residents who attended corinthian colleges in early 2015. the department says an investigation shows the school misrepresented job placement rates for many of its programs. the department of justice says delaware residents who attended the college which is complete a form online and apply for forgiveness of their federal student loans. a trip through star buck drive through in texas left a bad taste in one customer's mouth. kelly burns almost finished her coffee starting salty w she poured it out she found a soap tablet that starbucks uses to clean out its espresso machines

says caught the thieves in action. then he had an idea. to make signs that are electrically charged. >> have a light for the power for the flagpole. so i went out to the farm and got the electric fence here we don't use any more. i figured if it was good enough to keep those cows and horses in it would be good enough t teenagers out. we run copper wire and turn it on. >> it appears working and says it's harmless and doesn't give you a jolt but gives you a jingle. just in time for the start of the school year, dozens of kids in camden got free haircuts today along with some school supplies. the levels barbershop on federal street hosting its third annual back to school event. crowds lining up all day to get ready for the school year. the first 100 kids got free backpacks with school supplies all the children who showed up got a free haircut. parents are thankful that the owners continue to open their doors for this event. >> it helps a lot.

'cause you know you spend all the money going back to school shopping and then you don't have enough to get their haircut to look good on the first day of school. >> were came for our haircuts. >> the own are in says he enjoys hosting this event so give back to the community. great job there. all right let's get back to dave warren check out what's on our radar tonight. >> on the radar tonight is not only the rain from post tropical storm hermine off the coast but also temperatures. they are dropping tonight into the 70s but we'll keep close eye on this once hermine moves out our numbers are going back up. here the rain spinning around that area of low pressure which continues to track to the west as it continues to move west we'll watch this radar closely could get close enough we'll see a few bands trying to work their way down the coast there over the next two days. slow-moving storm but eventually it will be moving out. the national hurricane center track turns it to the north wednesday morning, thursday and friday it is moving off to the northeast into the mid atlantic

that's where it will be by thursday. look what takes its place. the heat and the humidity. all being pulled up ahead of this storm which will slowly work its way through the area. starting on thursday. so our temperatures will really start to climb. this is the heat index not just the temperature. 92 the upper 90s maybe touching 100 degrees. we know what that feels like. it's been here before and it's coming back here on thursday and friday. there will also be a few showers and thunderstorms. so we're 86 degrees today. mid 80s tomorrow. enjoy thursday -- wednesday and then we climb into the 90s. now could be a heat wave. thursday, friday, even saturday. but by sunday the eagles homeowner that humidity is clearing out and the temperatures will be dropping. it will feel much more comfortable there. so the heat wave could be starting on thursday as hermine moves out. so we're talking about the one type of weather to another. and we've dealt with it before but it's only for three days at most. cooler weather in by this

weekend. >> all right, dave, thanks. a chester county resident got a surprise visitor this labor day weekend a fox 29 viewer sent us these pictures from west town township. you can see this bare walking through the homeowner's backya backyard. you can see close up there of the head. no wore on how long this guy stuck around. residents in montgomery county have a new community center they can use now. upper merion township community celebrating its new facility today with a ribbon cutting ceremony. the crowd gathered at the new building located on the 400 block of west valley forge road in king of prussia. township officials say the building will provide a lot of new opportunities for community residents. >> it will be a gathering place for all of us who live and work in upper merion township. this place will foster wellness, community and friendship. >> local officials say the project took about a decade to complete. and the idea came from a committee of residents. sean, what's up in sports?
